About KLCC

The King’s Lynn Capri Club (often abbreviated to KLCC) was formed in June / July 1991. Therefore, a remarkable & lengthy history as the club has now entered its 4th decade.

The club has around 30 members, many of whom have been established with the KLCC for a long period of time. We even have a member who was at the very first meeting in 1991, which is an amazing feat.

If you can remember that far back, the key events of 1991, when the KLCC was founded, were as follows:-

  • Iraq invades Kuwait in 1990 and Operation Desert Storm (better known as The Gulf War) commences in early 1991, led by the US to free Kuwait of the invasion.
  • The US is led by President George H W Bush. John Major is the British premier, having succeeded Margaret Thatcher in late 1990.
  • Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves was the major blockbuster of the year and the Bryan Adams theme song scored no. 1 in the music charts for the whole summer…and more.
  • Robert Maxwell and Freddie Mercury both died in 1991.
  • Top 3 selling vehicles in Britain were Fiesta, Escort and Sierra & Ford had 30% share of new car sales as well.
  • A UK court determines that police fabricated evidence when convicting the Birmingham six for taking part in a Provisional Irish Republican Army bombing incident. The six men are released after 16 years’ imprisonment.
  • The first ever website is created.
  • The break-up of the Soviet Union is signified by lowering its flag for the very last time in December.

All of these events were at the time of the formation of the KLCC and it brings a picture to how long the club has been in existence.

As the KLCC, we are a thriving group of Capri enthusiasts who have welcomed other models and brands into the club over the more recent years that are linked to the Capri or to Ford. With the Capri being out of production now for so many decades, relatively few remain, given over 1.8 million were produced. Therefore, the club has decided to reach out further to accept more vehicles and this has made the KLCC into the success it has become.

We are a group of passionate individuals sharing the devotion to these older Ford coupés (and other models). We have a monthly meeting on the 2nd Monday of every month at the Crown Inn, Gayton, King’s Lynn PE32 1PA at 8:00pm.

We hold a “show and shine” competition annually. We also deliver awards to those who attend the most events during the calendar year and more points and trophies to those whose car has been independently assessed as the best KLCC car at a show. All of these awards are presented at the Christmas gathering.

Whilst we are a small club, we are an active one and always willing to accept more people to join our group. Therefore, if you are interested in joining, please contact Peter Bradshaw at klcapriclub@gmail.com – the annual full membership is £20 — Social membership is £10.

Why not come along to one of the monthly meetings to find out more about what the KLCC do. You can introduce yourself and meet this friendly membership group, just to see if it is something you might like to join.
