1999 Ford Puma 1.7 “Top Gear”

Ford Puma 1.7, V684DNU, registered in 1999 currently on 99,000 miles. The car was used in the 2013 “Bangers 4 BEN” charity run. BEN is the automotive industry charity and each year they have a car run using cars costing no more than £500. The cars could be painted/decorated or have numerous sponsership decals covering the car and after the run the cars would be sold with all profits going to the charity.  V684DNU was supported by the AA and BBC Television’s Top Gear programme. As part of that support the car was signed on the bonnet by Jeremey Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May.

2013 marked the 50th anniversary of the Porsche 911 and so it was that the 2013 run would start from the Porsche offices in Reading, go across Europe via the feasome Nurburgring to the Porsche museum and factory in Stuttgart. 23 cars departed on the 12th October 2013 taking 4 days and covering 1200 miles and all cars successfully negotiated the route. On the 30th October the cars were sold at the Aston Barclay auction in Chelmsford which raised £10430 on the day with an additional £7002 raised from sponsorship. A video of the auction is on YouTube at the following link Bangers 4 BEN Charity Auction 2013 at Aston Barclay Chelmsford (youtube.com) fast forward to 4 minutes 40 seconds to see the Puma being sold for £575.

I purchased the car in 2014 after seeing the listing on Ebay after having previously seen it at the Boston Classic Car Show and talking to the owner. The car will require the usual Puma rust areas, rear arches, sills and front wings tackled in the near future, keeping this unique car on the road.
