1984 Capri 2.8 Injection Special

At 20:13 on 19 December 1984, a white Capri 2.8i Special rolled off the production line in Cologne, Germany. It was sold to the 1st owner in March 1985 and was registered B820CPU.

My parents purchased B820 in early 1988 as 3rd owner and had 13 very happy years with the car.

In early 2001, my mother bought a new Cougar 2.5 V6 and stopped using the Capri from that time. It drifted across to me around 2006 and I have been the full custodian of it, looked after it and garaged it ever since. The V5 was changed in 2019 into my name. 

I know all remaining owners of the vehicle and all 4 of us are shown in the picture. Probably quite a rare thing with a car that is fast approaching 40 yrs old.

Just as significant as B820’s history is the place setting of that photo. This was the Capri’s 50th birthday event held at Warley Ford premises in July 2019. This was the closing down celebration of the premises after 55 yrs of Ford occupation. Due to the timing of this closure coinciding with the Capri’s 50th, it was decided to mark the 2 anniversaries together. Amazing how this all coincided 

Whilst it is rarely used, covering less than 1,000 miles pa, it’s reached that point where it has been in the family for so long, it’s hard to justify selling it. There was a time that it could easily have been sold and worth a mere £1500. But as time has moved along, it’s not only become quite a valuable asset, the sentimental value of something like this being in the family for over 3 decades outweighs any other drawback from owning yet another motor. That sentimental value has only grown stronger since the collection of all 4 owners in one photograph. I would doubt many ~40yr old motors have that accolade.

B820 is a showable car but its quality does not match its history. Therefore, I keep toying with the idea of restoring it, to improve the quality. However, do I damage its history, as the car is original, bar 2 front wings ?

I don’t know. Time will tell!!
