1987 Capri 280

Bought from Charlie in March 2013 so now in my care 10 years. Immediately after I took custodianship of the car I fitted a fully reconditioned gearbox and has the lower half of the body bare metalled to see if there were any hidden horrors. “Nothing major found “ repainted and fully waxoiled the floor pans. I then fitted an un cracked dash top and original radio cassette. Also a mint condition parcel shelf. A short while later I removed the seats and had them reconalised . “Unfortunately not to the standards promised but the restorer” a few years later I have had them re-done by a local classic car dealer-restoration company “to a good standard this time” I’ve removed the aftermarket electric window kit and alarm and after a 5 year search found a pair of mint condition front door cards to replace the old damaged ones. I took the car to Tickover in Kent to set up the fuelling as in was jerky on light throttle and I then fully serviced it with all new service items inc genuine ht lead set and distributer cap-rotor arm. Fresh lsd oil in the back axle with new oil seal. I’ve removed the aftermarket princess 4 pot calipers and returned to standard Ford reconditioned calipers with genuine front pads and rear shoe set. Replaced all the brake hoses with braided items covered in black rubber to retain the original look. Fitted a new set of “5” 195-50-15 Pirelli tyres “as fitted from factory” fitted a new lock set with all locks now working on one “working” torch key. During lockdown I stripped the car to a running shell “no interior, carpets, glass, lights, bumpers, locks, spoiler, rubbing strips, removing the alloys and fitting temporary steel wheels. I then took it to Steve at sm classic car restorations in Doncaster “Steve is mr capri” he has around 20 capris ant anytime in his workshops being restored. The car was then bare metalled “by hand” and the front “pattern part” wing’s removed. A few small areas of corrosion were found and cut out with new steel let in. A pair of good condition genuine ford front wings were then welded back on. The aftermarket roof aerial was removed and the hole welded up and a new electric aerial fired in the correct position on the n/s/f wing. The car was then fully repainted and all doors frames painted satin black & new weather strips fitted, a new windscreen was also fitted. I rebuilt the car over Easter weekend on the Fri-sat 2022 and mot’d it on the Sunday I was driving it around.
