1986 Capri 2.0 Laser Auto

HISTORY:
This car was specially ordered with the “Automatic Gearbox” option for the wife of a customer in Jersey and delivered by La Motte Garages Ltd., Ford Main Dealers, Victoria Ave., Jersey, on 9-Sep-1986.
Original registration number was J 4999, later changed to J 51906.

Before taking delivery, the owner had the standard “Truro” interior removed by La Motte Ford and replaced with the present “Recaro” shark grey, cloth interior.

The first 20 years of life saw it trundling around on the Island of Jersey.
It was imported into the UK on 27-Jan-2006 at a cost of £181.00 and the registration number D107 UJO, costing a further £95.00 in import duty, was allocated on 16-Mar-2006 by the DVLA office in Oxford.

I have owned the car since 2013 and it has covered 83,000 miles with full service history to date.

WORK DONE:
The engine has been removed, overhauled and fitted with hardened valve seats for running on unleaded fuel.

The front brakes have been upgraded with vented disks and 2.8i callipers.

To improve road holding, 205/60 R13 tyres have been fitted using Ford RS 4-spoke 7J x 13 alloys. This made the steering heavy at low speed and indicated that power steering was needed.
The front cross member was replaced with one that was modified to take a power steering rack. The Ford power steering system was then fitted.

It has been fitted with electronic ignition.

K&N air filter, “Sportex” performance exhaust system and plastic front inner wing liners (ex Ford Sierra) have also been fitted.

The Ford C3 Bordeaux 3-speed automatic gearbox is extremely smooth and makes the car easy to drive. Top gear is a 1:1 gear ratio which gives it the same top gear as a 4-speed manual gearbox.

Automatic versions of the Capri Laser are quite rare. The great majority were produced with Manual Gearboxes.
